Writing As a Ghost Writer – How Much Should You Charge?

A lot of people are outsourcing their writing work and willing to pay others to the job for them and this is all good, since it makes everyone happy. The person outsourcing his or her work finds someone who can write for him or her and the person with writing skills can make some extra money. This is all good isn’t it?

The only problem is showing its ugly face when two things happen such as, either the person outsourcing his work wants articles written for very little money, such as less than $5 per article or the article writer is asking so much for writing an article that he or she can’t find anyone giving them the job.

In a perfect world there would be a balance between the two; the person hiring would not be so greedy that they would want the job done just for pennies and the writer would be willing to write for a reasonable enough price that would make everyone happy.

There are two things that each the writer and the outsourcer need to understand very clearly in order to know how much to charge and how much to be willing to pay.

If you are the outsourcer you need to understand that: 1. Writing takes effort, and it’s a service delivered to you just like any other service that you might pay for. 2. People cannot afford to write for pennies.

Yes, writing takes effort. Even when you provide your writer with all the keywords they will still need to spend some time doing research, write and edit, before the article is delivered to you. The whole time from beginning to end would be at the very least an hour or so.

The question you need to ask yourself is would anyone want to work for $3 – $5 per hour? I know I wouldn’t.

If you are the writer, you need to understand that; 1. People might not be able to afford to spend $25 for you to write for them unless your writing is really specific or that you are writing for people who have a large budget for their article jobs. 2. They don’t know you and might be nervous to pay so much money for articles that are not worth the price.

As the outsourcer, you need to evaluate how much the article will get you back and pay accordingly. As the writer, you need to find a balance between making a decent income for your hard work while it would still be a good deal for your customers.

Writing articles for others or having someone write your articles for you is great business for both parties, as long as it is profitable for both parties as well.

Article Writing – How Much to Charge

Freelance article writing is undoubtedly one of the best ways to make money online these days. Hundreds of internet marketers are looking for somebody who can ghostwrite their articles. Although some of them do not have much money to spend, there are those who are more than happy to pay $10-$25 per article as long as they know that they’re getting nothing but the best.

If you’re a freelance article writer and if you’re bidding on article writing projects on various freelancing sites, it’s important that you know how to bid accordingly. Obviously, your bid price is something that your potential buyers will seriously consider. You cannot afford to make these people feel that you’re charging them too much otherwise, they’ll surely look the other way. You cannot also charge too little as this will send a strong message to potential buyers that you have nothing great to offer.

Here are some tips on how you can properly charge for article writing projects that you want to work on:

  1. First thing that you need to do is to check your standing in the freelancing sites that you’re using. Are you considered one of the most trusted providers? Do you have more than enough positive feedback that will give your potential buyers a guarantee that you can do the job properly? If you answer yes to these questions, you can charge more compare to your competitors. As I said a while ago, some buyers do not mind paying more if they know that they’re working with the best. If you’re just starting out and if you haven’t proven your worth yet, it’s best if you charge a bit less until you get enough feedbacks on your profile. Most people who are new on freelancing sites charge as low as $1-$3 per article. Yes, it’s not much but you can easily increase your rate once you have proven track record.
  2. Length. Generally, longer articles cost more than those that contain 300-500 words. So, it’s important that you ask potential buyers the length of the articles. Sometimes, these people will need 1,000 words for each article. Charging $1-$2/100 words will sound very reasonable.
  3. Needed research. Before you place your bid, determine first how much research is needed in completing the whole project. You wouldn’t want to charge $5/article if it will take you one day to research one topic, right?
  4. Read the requirements. Know what other requests are included in the article writing project. Buyers would sometimes ask you to post the articles that you’ve written on their blog or would ask you to distribute the articles to directories. You can charge additional for these or tell your potential buyers that you’re just interested in writing the articles. You have to make this clear before you accept the project to avoid conflict in the future.
